»Orte der Friedlichen Revolution Berlin«
Martin Jander
Published by Robert-Havemann-Gesellschaft, Berlin 2009, Price: 5 euro (ISBN 978-3-86711-087-7)

The book Orte der friedlichen Revolution Berlin is published to mark the 20th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution and the fall of the Berlin Wall. On 68 pages, the author Martin Jander takes the reader through the year of the revolution. Using examples of people, places and events, he describes the political and social changes in the GDR, linking them to specific addresses in Berlin. Alongside famous sites such as the Zion Church and the Church of the Redeemer, the book also introduces less prominent places such as the homes of well known opposition activists like Wolf Biermann and Bärbel Bohley, and previously unacknowledged locations in the West of the city. This informative compendium awakens memories of the dramatic moments of the time, and is also a travel guide through an as yet incomplete chapter of Germany’s recent history.

The Peaceful Revolution. Berlin 1989/90 - The Path to German Unity
Jens Schöne
Published by Berlin Story Verlag, Berlin 2009, Price: 14,95 euro

Only once in their history did the Germans succeed in staging a successful and peaceful revolution: in the years 1989-1990. This is the story of that revolution, with an explanation of the background and an evaluation of the consequences. In the Autumn of 1989, the people wrenched the right peaceably to assemble from the authorities and changed the world. Author Jens Schöne explains the whole complex process: how each little gain had to be fought for and how desperately the regime clung to power.
