On 7 October 1989, the police ordered fire engines to be used against demonstrators as water canons. The crowd dispersed at around 6 pm, leaving only a few hundred individuals. Security forces cordoned off the inner city and made sixty arrests.

On the following day, the voluntary fire brigade condemned the deployment of the professional fire brigade against the population, declaring it illegal.

The Plauen “Initiative for Democratic Renewal of Society” called people to a protest demonstration on the town’s Theaterplatz on 7 October 1989. The flyer reflects the demands of autumn 1989. The people of Plauen were often several days ahead of the nationwide development during these weeks.
